Lets face it showers last ten years at best then its down a steep hill from
there.
Newer showers built using a membrane can be almost half that time
Showers face a number of problems during their lifetime, often going many
years without any real consideration about maintenance until major problems are
seen.

On average a shower could be used up to 712 times a year ( or almost 60
hours) that's 7120 times (or 600 hours) in ten years for a couple having
only 1 five minute shower each per day.
For a family of four we can double all those figures. (1424 times a year or
120 hours)
In my house with four teens we can multiply the time figure by at least 4,
that could mean 480 hours of use a year or 4800 for the ten year figure (no
wonder they wear out)
Now lets look at the other things we do:
 | Cleaning the Shower - Steam cleaners are a really big NO NO, they
push water vapour where its not meant to go, that is through the grout and
erode surfaces rapidly and lift seals. Abrasive
cleaners and hard scrubbing brushes erode the grout and wear the seals.
Plus we bombard the surfaces and seals with a myriad
of chemical treatments that will all effect the life of the shower. |
 | Cleaning ourselves - Every chemical we use on ourselves, that is
soaps, hair cleaning & conditioning products, perfumes, hair removal
treatments, hair colouring plus lots more. You name it we have probably used
it at some time all of these can lead to damage to surfaces & seals
over time. |
